(Updated 15-Feb-2020 - specifically regarding video tutorials)
I have been asked a lot of things over the last few years and many of the messages have probably gone without replies, either because I didn't see them due to not logging in or because I was too busy and swamped with e-mails. Hopefully this list of frequently asked questions will clarify most of those cases and future ones as well.

Q: Can I make a new video tutorial of how to fold one of your origami models and put it on YouTube/etc.?
A: YOU MUST GET MY WRITTEN PERMISSION AND MUST ADHERE TO ANY CREDITING REQUIREMENTS I MAKE IN IT. Some of my diagrams are published in a book now and those are subject to a somewhat set of stricter copyright rules. I am also finding an increasing number of videos using my work with zero crediting and no linkbacks to the diagrams. I am considering making copyright claims against some of those videos since it's starting to get a bit out of control. There are big origami channels doing this to a lot of folders who don't have a big publisher guarding their work - it's not just me getting ripped off by those folks. For the smaller guys: if you made a video of one of my designs from here in 2019 or earlier AND you credited me by name or linked back to the diagrams on this site then don't worry - I won't copyright strike you.
Q: How can I contact you?
A: By e-mail. Go to www.donyaquick.com/about-me/ to get my email address. Please only use the gmail address listed there.
Q: Can I follow one of your origami tutorials and then sell the model? -or- Can I use your designs as part of a larger commission I'm earning money from?
A: No. My designs are subject to standard copyright rules and may not be used commercially without my permission. You are welcome to give the models away as gifts, but when money enters the equation it becomes commercial use.
Q: Where are the instructions for the origami moose and/or pig?
A: The moose's instructions are incomplete but finally located and pulled off of a mostly dead hard drive as of December 2016. However, I do not currently intend to invest the time to clean them up and do not intend to post them publicly. My old pig design was never diagrammed and I do not currently intend to dig up my original folds to figure it out again. I have since developed a newer (and I think better) pig design which can be found in the book An Origami Farm.
Q: Can I put a printout of one of your downloadable pieces of art on my office/lab/etc. door?
A: Yes. You don't need to ask for permission.
Q: Can I use your work as part of a school project or homework assignment?
A: As long as you cite it appropriately, then yes - and you don't need to ask permission since this is an example of fair use. If you aren't sure how to cite what you used, ask your teacher/professor for guidance.
Q: Can I print a downloadable piece of your art on a couple of T-shirts/stickers/etc.?
A: You can only do this without asking for permission if...
A: you need to e-mail me and ask for written permission. I have given responses both ways for these kinds of requests - whether I give permission or not really depends on the particular case.
- You are not profiting from the use of my work.
- The item you're making is for personal use.
- You are not using my work in a way that implies I endorse a particular company, political stance, or religious belief.
Basically, feel free to slap one of my cartoons on a few T-shirts so your science club and go on a field trip in matching attire, but if you're trying to promote something or distribute a product more widely then you need to have my written permission first.
Q: Can I use a downloadable piece of your work to promote an event/person/business?A: you need to e-mail me and ask for written permission. I have given responses both ways for these kinds of requests - whether I give permission or not really depends on the particular case.
Q: Can I hire you to make something?
A: Maybe. Contact me by email but please be aware that I am very busy.
My Second Origami Book: Paleo Origami
I've just published a second round of origami designs/tutorials called Paleo Origami: Dinosaurs, Pterosaurs, and More. As the title suggests, this collection is centered around dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. The book is available both as a paperback and eBook on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XH2JRHW In this set of designs, I focused both on including more paleontologically up-to-date representations of some creatures and on featuring some more unusual animals that often don't make their way into the paper folding world. Paleo Origami utilizes color more strongly than my last book, both in the diagrams themselves and in the display models. The kindle version of the book is also in color for devices that support it, but still compatible with black-and-white devices. A couple of design highlights: Velociraptor (with suggested wing/tail feathers) and a Trilobite.
I Finally Published an Origami Book!
After many years of designing and folding origami, I finally put together a book of tutorials for a bunch of my designs: An Origami Farm. As the title implies, the book has a bunch of farm animals and other farm-related designs. It's currently available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08M8DBG7Q/ Since Amazon's "look inside" feature can be a bit hit-and-miss for books like this, I made my own page with more details on the book that includes the pictorial table of contents and a video flip-through to give a better idea of what the paperback and kindle versions are actually like: http://www.donyaquick.com/an-origami-farm/ The only design in the book with any similarity to my older/existing designs on DA is the horse, which of course is the same base as my unicorn but with the end flap of the head folded into a mouth instead of a horn. The diagrams are overhauled for the horse; they are cleaner and more detailed than was the case for my original unicorn tutorial. All of the other
Thanks
HI Y'ALL. I'm actually using the journal button instead of just being lazy and writing in my deviation comments. =P
I was recently unable to log onto DA to go about my usual business of posting toons and forum-badgering for a while due to a fun combination of home computer and lower arm problems (tendonitis in both arms at the same time majorly sucks). The computer is mostly under control, although stil fubared enough that I'll have a lot to do over the break if I want it back as a data-crunching machine for research.
Anyway, I wanted to say thanks to my watchers and other random people that have been viewing and commenting on my art. After
