Updated 05-Dec-2016

I have been asked a lot of things over the last few years and many of the messages have probably gone without replies, either because I didn't see them due to not logging in or because I was too busy and swamped with e-mails. Hopefully this list of frequently asked questions will clarify most of those cases and future ones as well.

Q: How can I contact you?
A: By e-mail! Please don't rely on the message systems here, since I often don't check it for months at a time. I have a website now, donyaquick.com, so go there to find contact information for me. Bear in mind that I am perpetually swamped with things and it can take me a while to reply - and things do slip through the cracks sometimes and get forgotten because of that. Shorter e-mails are likely to get a reply faster.

Q: Where are the instructions for the origami moose?
A: Incomplete but finally located and pulled off of a mostly dead hard drive as of December 2016. However, it will still be quite some time before I have the time to finish them.

Q: Where are the instructions for the origami pig?
A: Forgotten. I folded it exactly twice and never diagrammed it, sorry. Moral of the story for fellow folders: document what you did IMMEDIATELY or this could happen to you, too.

Q: Can I sell what I have folded after following your origami instructions?
A: NO. They are not for commercial use. You are welcome to give the models away as gifts or help someone else learn to make them for free, but when money enters the equation it becomes commercial use.

Q: Can I use your origami designs as part of a larger commission I've been hired to do?
A: NO. They are not for commercial use.

Q: Can I put your art on my office/lab/etc. door?
A: Of course. You don't need to ask!

Q: Can I use your work as part of a school project or homework assignment?
A: As long as you cite it appropriately, then absolutely - and you don't need to ask permission. If you aren't sure how to cite what you used, ask your teacher/professor (they will almost certainly get back to you faster than I can!).

Q: Can I make a video of how to fold one of your origami models and put it on youtube/etc.?
A: YES. Please do. Just make sure you link back to the original instructions (or my main page here) or mention how to find them in the video.

Q: Can I use your art on T-shirts/fliers/etc. to do with a non-profit club or other small group?
A: As long as the group itself has no political or religious agenda then YES. Here are some examples of totally OK usage where you don't even need to ask: local chess clubs, your school's geology club, and science or engineering labs at academic institutions. Examples of usage I don't want: fliers advertising your local political party chapter, T-shirts promoting your local church, etc. Basically I don't want to be seen as endorsing a particular political or religious view, but you are still welcome to still stick my work on your office door at one of these places. Also, to clarify, I don't mind at all if your group/lab happens to be at school with mild religious affiliation (after all, I went to Southern Methodist University) as long as the group/lab itself isn't about promoting that religion. Be warned that I do NOT have high res files of most of my work easily accessible these days and the originals are pretty much in boxes, so if the picture here isn't up to spec for you, it's unlikely I'll be able to do better.

Q: Can I use your art on something promoting myself or in some other publication?
A: Generally NO. You can ask by e-mail but I am unlikely to be able to respond quickly.

Q: Can I hire you to do something?
A: Only if it's related to my research (computer music & automated composition) and is a commission that is pretty limited in scope. I'm very busy with research and teaching these days and non-music art is limited to a hobby for me at the moment.

Howdy! I've folded the Parasaurolophus, and I made a few modifications to it as well to make it look more life-like. I reversed the "Arm" flaps and tucked them under the legs and made a squash fold to thin and shape them. I crimped the tail and tilted it downward a bit so it was parallel to the table. I folded the tip of the face inside and squished the crest. From there, I gave the crest a roll to curl it to a natural shape. With your permission, I would like to send you a photograph to show the vanilla instructions and my modified Parasaurolophus.

BTW, your origami is by far the best that I've encountered! I've seen other people's origami which had instructions but they were so hard to follow, my attempts at them are quite messy. Yours is much cleaner and easier for comparison.

Hey Donna,

Great deviations! I have enjoyed folding a lot of your origami creations.

I just thought I should let you know that I am planning on making youtube tutorials on some of your origami models. In the description of the origami diagrams you say that its ok to use your models as long as I link back to the diagram and credit you as the author. I will be sure to do so.

Here is a link to my youtube channel: [link]

If you do not wish for me to post tutorials on it please let me know and I will respect your wishes.

Thanks for your time!

Sincerely,
Suhas
